What Happens to Your Metal After You Sell It? – Nonferrous Metals –

 – The Metal Scrapping Process –

The metal scrapping process is a unique series of events that produces a small refined steel product and numerous types of non-ferrous materials that are exported all across the world from our Baltimore and Rockville location. But what exactly happens when you drop off those extra household scraps and old metal items to United Iron & Metal?

Once the non-ferrous scrap (non-magnetic material) is received at United Iron & Metal it is then sorted into the correct container. For non-ferrous items the metal sorting process takes a bit longer because each item has to be placed in the appropriate corresponding bin. We have numerous containers ranging from aluminum, copper #1, brass, car batteries, bare bright wire, siding and more! After the non-ferrous metals are collected and sorted they are transported to our Rockville location to be upgraded, melted down or bailed and then exported.

Every piece of metal has a slightly different processing cycle depending on the size, contamination and type.  Bring your extra scrap metal to either of our Baltimore locations today! At United Iron & Metal, we offer fair pricing with a fast and friendly service.

Stay tuned and look out for the Ferrous Metal process next week!
