Summer Time Safety Tips
Here at United Iron & Metal every one of us wants to have some summer fun and we know you do too! Besides scrapping metal, having fun is our most favorite thing!
Summer time brings lots of great things: cook-outs, sunshine and swimming-just to name a few. Here are a few simple tips from us to you to keep your family safe this summer:
1. Be careful what you cook and grill in Aluminum foil. “If you’re baking fish, roasting vegetables or preparing a piece of meat for dinner tonight, chances are that you’ll wrap your food in aluminium foil. What you may not realize is that some of the foil will leach into your meal – and this could be bad for your health.” Read more about this here.
2. Are you trying to conserve energy and lower your electric bill? In the morning, close up your house and draw blinds and drapes so the house stays darker and thus cooler. If you have venetian blinds, close them or angle them upwards. That way, light is reflected up and into the room and direct rays of the sun are not let in.
3. Practice Water safety! Practice “touch supervision” when in the water with children and new swimmers. This means that at all times, the supervising adult is within an arm’s length of the child being watched, when near or in the water. Remember, no child or adult is “drown proof.” Reminder: No swimming in Baltimore Harbor!
4. SUNSCREEN. Enough said!
5. If you can, scrap early in the morning and later in the day to avoid the heat. Also, mornings are the least busy time at our yard, so get a head start and stay cool!
