The Lightest Microlattice Metal In The World Is 99.99% Air

We seem to be constantly amazed these days at incredible technological and scientific breakthroughs. This new achievement will without a doubt impress you. Boeing (a “corporation that designs, manufactures, and sells airplanes, rotorcraft, rockets and satellites”) has designed a metal which is 99.99% air.

The material -also known as a microlattice resembles the inner structure of human bones. It is solid on the outside and hollow in the inside. This way it remains extremely light and strong enough to withstand large amounts of pressure.

The metal was material was developed by researchers in 2011. The main use for the metal would be for structural components of aircrafts. The material would cut down weight significantly and as a result save fuel costs. This new material may just become just another future technology game changer!
